The Bishop's Wife
Henry, the local bishop, is consumed with raising money for a new cathedral at the risk of losing his wife and daughter. But, when Dudley, an angel with a mission, arrives, he soon opens the eyes of the people he’s been sent to help. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “The Bishop’s Wife”.
· After Mrs. Hamilton leaves, Henry is talking to Julia in the hallway about being late. Julie is wearing a bow and the string on the right is noticeably shorter than the one on the left. It’s still that way when Julia and Henry first sit down for dinner. In the farther view of Julia, when Henry is talking about their plans for the next day, the length of the ribbon on right is now much shorter than before, while the length on the right is considerably longer.
· Dudley is first talking to Henry in the study. In the wider view, when Dudley mentions he’s “assigned to this district temporarily”, his hands are clasped together behind him. His hands are still that way in the rear, close-up of him as he looks down at the photo of Julia. It cuts to a wider view of Dudley and Henry and Dudley’s hands are now clasped together in front of him.
· Also in this scene, a few moments later, when Dudley says the cathedral “ought to look magnificent on Sanctuary Hill”, and walks toward the window, Henry is shown with his left arm up, with his hand near his shoulder, with his right hand behind his back. As he’s walking toward Dudley, he puts both hands behind his back. It cuts to a closer view of Henry and his left hand is back in its original position, near his shoulder.
· Dudley, Julia and Henry are sitting at the dinner table. Dudley asks Henry to pass the celery. In the close-up view, Henry reaches in his pocket and has a piece of celery in his left hand as he passes the plate with his right hand. It cuts to a rear view of Henry and his left hand is empty and on the table. He is then seen reaching into his pocket again with his left hand and pulls out the celery again.
“The Bishop’s Wife” (1947) stars Cary Grant, Loretta Young, David Niven, Elsa Lanchester, Gladys Cooper, Monty Woolley, and James Gleason. It runs 109 minutes and is rated G.
